Non-Traditional Students: Are They at Risk?

Competition for students continues to intensify for colleges and universities — and along with it, the importance of strategic recruitment and retention practices. Non-traditional students are a key population for schools, representing one of the fastest-growing segments within higher education. What is important to note, however, is that almost one third of non-traditional students may be ‘at risk’ of dropping out of school. Barnes & Noble College Insights took a closer look at this particular segment of non-traditional students to learn more about their college experience, what external motivations drive them and why they are less likely to attend college to follow a passion.
