Sandwiched after Rush and before March Madness, February can be an untypically quiet time on campus, but it’s traditionally proven to be the perfect time to catch up with good friends and express feelings for those you love. That’s the idea behind a current sweepstakes promotion Barnes & Noble College has launched to commemorate Valentine’s Day and help college students show a little love for their school.
Offering a $100 Visa gift card as first prize, the ‘We Love College’ Valentine’s Sweepstakes invites students to participate through their campus bookstore Facebook page with an entry they can complete detailing what they most love about their school. “It’s a great way to keep our students engaged in a fun way and show their appreciation for their college,” explains Sandra Webb, Barnes & Noble College’s Social Media Coordinator.
As a way of both staying connected and providing constantly updated information for students, Barnes & Noble College has always had a keen interest in developing new and engaging ways of using social media. With promotions throughout the year, Webb explains that keeping content fresh and in the moment helps to maintain interest in the company’s various social media channels, while provide new reasons to revisit their sites.
The current sweepstakes has shown that the spirit of romance is certainly not dead on campus. Over 10,000 entries have been received since the promotion launched at the beginning of the month, and the winning entry will be selected in time for Valentine’s Day. “The type of entries we’re seeing really varies,” Webb says, “There are some really positive and exciting messages students are posting about their schools, but there are also a lot that reflect on what they appreciate about college life in general,” she says, adding that many entries focus on the theme of how excited students are to have the opportunity to go to college and further their education.
The ‘We Love College’ sweepstakes is part of Barnes & Noble College’s national holiday campaign that also ties-in to promotions on many of the individual bookstore websites – inviting students to vote and comment on their favorite general merchandise items found in their bookstores. “A sweepstakes program is a great way to keep things relevant and timely with our students,” explains Webb. And in the middle of a freezing, wintery February, the perfect way to show a little warmth for their school.
