The Kern Community College District (KCCD) in California, one of the largest community college districts in the United States serving more than 41,000 students, has entered into a five (5) year agreement with Barnes & Noble College to manage campus bookstore operations at its three campuses and six education campus sites. Barnes & Noble will begin managing the KCCD bookstores on May 31, 2011.
KCCD serves communities covering over 24,800 square miles in parts of Kern, Tulare, Inyo, Mono, and San Bernardino counties through the programs of Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso Community College and
Porterville College. Governed by a locally elected Board of Trustees, the district’s colleges offer programs and services that develop student potential and create opportunities for our citizens. Its student body includes a diversity of religions, economic backgrounds, abilities, and ethnicities.
Over the fall semester, Barnes & Noble will make a number of structural and cosmetic changes to the Bakersfield, Porterville, and Cerro Coso bookstores. These improvements will provide a more convenient and welcoming shopping experience. Along with installing new fixtures, countertops, and lighting each store will be updated with a color palette, images, and accents that evoke the history and mission of each college.
Barnes & Noble’s commitment to technology will offer immediate benefits to the entire KCCD community. Each campus will have its own e-commerce website from which students can order new, used, rental, or eTextbooks. As an added convenience, students taking classes at multiple KCCD campuses will be able to order books for all classes from any single bookstore website.
Barnes & Noble College operates more than 630 college and university bookstores across the nation with more than 28 in California including Santa Clara University, Cal State Stanislaus, San Jose State, Lake Tahoe Community College, and Cal State Los Angeles.
