Florida Memorial University Partners with Barnes & Noble

June 20, 2011

Barnes & Noble College  is pleased to announce our new partnership with Florida Memorial University (FMU). We will begin managing the former independently operated Florida Memorial University Bookstore beginning July 8, 2011.

“As an institution, you’re always looking for innovative ways to provide your students with the latest and greatest educational services. Barnes & Noble is unparalleled in the services it provides to all of its university partners. Moving from ‘good to great’ requires flexibility, openness, and change, and in my opinion, this new partnership moves Florida Memorial University a step closer to the greatness we seek.”

–  Archie L. Bouie II, Director of Auxiliary Services for Florida Memorial University

Established in 1879, the private coeducational four-year university in Miami Gardens, Florida, is one of the 39-member institutions of the United Negro College Fund. The historically black, Baptist-affiliated institution ranked second in Florida and ninth in the United States for graduating African-American teachers.

In May 2011, FMU President Henry Lewis III, announced plans to increase the student population from 2,000 to 3,500, build new classroom buildings and 360 new dormitories, and improve education quality by 2020. A new wellness center is also expected to start construction in 2014.

Florida Memorial University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges (SAC) and offers 41 undergraduate degree programs and four graduate degree programs through its eight academic divisions in six academic schools.
