A new chapter has begun for the Montcalm Community College (MCC) bookstore. Opened in December, the bookstore is now operated by Barnes & Noble College, which manages over 640 college and university bookstores nationwide.
Under a five-year contract, Barnes & Noble will manage the on-campus bookstore, which is located in the college’s Activities Building. Students will have a variety of textbook options in store and online – with a selection of new, used, rentals and digital textbooks, as well as customizable course packs to meet the textbook format preferences of each student. The store will also carry a wide selection MCC apparel and other branded items.
“There are a lot of great advantages that we can now provide students,” said College President Bob Ferrentino. “What we can’t do as an individual bookstore, they can do very well. We’re looking forward to offering expanded and better services to our students and our community.”
Barnes & Noble College has also taken a leadership position in the use of social media to connect with students. The Montcalm Community College bookstore will have its own locally managed Facebook page, Foursquare promotions, and an innovative word-of-mouth marketing program to help keep students connected to bookstore products, services, and special events.
Founded in 1965, MCC is a two-year community college located in Sidney, Michigan, with an enrollment of over 2,000 students. MCC offers 65 associate degrees (including Accounting, Business Administration and Nursing), certificate and job training programs, courses that transfer to bachelor’s degree programs, and articulations with other colleges that offer students a seamless transfer.
