Barnes & Noble College Supports First National Student Day

Partnership With Musicians On Call

Barnes & Noble College bookstores will participate through their partnership with Musicians On Call (MOC), the non-profit charitable organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities.

“Our partnership with ‘Musicians On Call’ was a natural fit to tie philanthropy and National Student Day together,” said Shanin Molinaro, director consumer marketing at Barnes & Noble. “We’ll ask students to share their efforts and awareness about giving back and what this means in their lives and in their school community.”

Penny for Your [Philanthropic] Thought Campaign

Penny CampaignIn partnership with MOC, Barnes & Noble will launch A Penny for Your [Philanthropic] Thought campaign via social media (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube). Students will be asked to share how they have given back and what it means to them and to their school community. For every thought shared via social media, Barnes & Noble will donate a penny to MOC up to a total of $10,000.

The penny campaign is also being supported by Starbucks in all of our Barnes & Noble College cafe stores. Customers who donate a penny (all pennies donated to MOC) will receive a free, tall, fresh-brewed Starbucks coffee.

In addition, students have the opportunity to win prizes for the most popular socially responsible idea and example of volunteerism in a national contest. Students can register at and post an example of how they like to give back to the community in the form of text, photos, drawings, or video.

Students can then spread the word via YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter to capture the most votes among their friends and win! The ten most popular examples of student volunteerism will win prizes from NACS ranging from a $3,000 scholarship to an iPad.
